About the camp facilities:
Joekaaru Laste Suvekodu is located about an hour and a half north east of Toronto, in Udora, Ontario, along the Pefferlaw River. The original farmhouse and surrounding property was purchased by Estonian immigrants as space to run an Estonian summer camp. Much of the land around the camp is also owned by Estonians who chose to have cottages and permanent residences there. Since 1953, our camp has been a space for Estonians from all over the world to come together to celebrate language, music, sports, art, dance and traditional knowledge.
Our facilities include a main dining hall, camp office, industrial-size kitchen and multipurpose recreation hall with a stage. We also have an outdoor dining space with an outdoor grill and picnic tables in an apple tree orchard. There are two double cabins located around a large open field space. A third double cabin is located across a small creek and near the playground. The cabins contain bunkbeds and personal cupboards, as well as shelves and hooks in a back room for luggage and clothing. In most cabins there are four consellor rooms. The cabins include flush toilets and sinks.
There are fields and forests around our camp, as well as a river, a marsh and a creek. Our sport facilities include a 400 m track, volleyball courts, and beach volleyball courts, basketball court, soccer field, and a baseball diamond.
We also have a newly built arts centre, which includes a kiln, as well as a leatherworking and woodworking cabin. Additional recreational equipment includes swings, a playground and sandbox. There is a waterside campfire site, a swimming pool and a shower facility that includes a sauna.
